Actor Interpreters – Shakespeare’s Birthplace - Part-time, fixed term contract – one year

The Trust is looking for two Actor Interpreters to join our in-house acting team ‘Shakespeare Aloud!’ at Shakespeare's Birthplace from March 2019 for one year.

Our Actor Interpreters will exude confidence and enthusiasm and strive to deliver the very best Shakespearean experience to our wide range of visitors. Performing in the beautiful open air setting of Shakespeare’s Birthplace, our actors will deliver a variety of performance, from first person interpretation to songs, speeches and sonnets to our visitors.

Performing to over 450,000 guests throughout the year from all over the world you will help us achieve our aim of bringing the wonderful words of Shakespeare to each and every visitor, young and old, with this unique and stunning backdrop. You will engage and interact with each visitor ensuring their visit is as special as it can be.

Cafe Supervisor – Mary Arden’s Farm - Full-time, fixed term contract

The Trust is currently looking for a full-time Cafe Supervisor for Mary Arden’s Farm for this season. You will supervise the cafe team to make sure that visitors receive a high quality service, from an efficient, profitable and enjoyable cafe.

To be successful in this role you will have experience of working in a busy cafe or restaurant, you will be able to supervise, motivate and coach others within the team to ensure customers receive an enjoyable all round experience. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to handle any problems that may arise in a calm and professional manner.

The post holders will need to be available to work over seven days and Bank Holidays.

Catering Assistants – Mary Arden’s Farm - Part-time, fixed term contract

The Trust is looking for four part-time Catering Assistants to join the Cafe team at Mary Arden's Farm for the summer season. One position is 12 hours per week, and three positions are 10 hours per week.

You will ensure visitors receive a great service, in an efficient and timely manner and that they have a memorable visit. You will have experience of working in a busy cafe or restaurant and be motivated to deliver excellent customer service. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work with other staff in a professional manner. 

The post holders will need to be available to work over seven days and Bank Holidays.

Kitchen Assistant – Mary Arden’s Farm - Part-time, fixed term contract

The Trust is looking for a part-time Kitchen Assistant to join the team at Mary Arden’s Farm for the summer season.

Working an average of 25 hours per week, you will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of food and drink to the required standards for all customers. You will assist in all aspects of the day to day kitchen duties including cleaning and will assist the Management team in ensuring the effective operation and profitability of the Hospitality department.

To be successful in this role, you will have experience working in the hospitality industry, excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills. You will be approachable and able to demonstrate an ability to work with a wide range of colleagues with an enthusiastic attitude.

The post holders will need to be available to work over seven days and Bank Holidays.

Period Interpreter – Anne Hathaway’s Cottage – Annualised hours contract

The Trust is looking to recruit a part-time Period Interpreter work 75 hours per annum to support the existing team at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Gardens across the year.

Reporting to the House Steward and working closely with the other Period Interpreters and Conservation and Engagement Supervisor, you will deliver excellent standards of visitor experience through a warm welcome and engaging sharing of information to enhance visitors' understanding of Shakespeare's work, life and times.

To be successful in this role you should have excellent communication skills and be confident talking to the public. You should have an interest in William Shakespeare, his work, life and times, be able to vary your talk to the visitor and answer their questions, and deal with situations that may arise in an appropriate way.

The closing date for applications is Friday 25th January 2019, and interviews will take place on Thursday 31st January 2019.

Period Interpreters – Mary Arden’s Farm - Part-time, fixed term contract

The Trust is looking for two part-time Period Interpreters to re-enact the life and times of William Shakespeare by portraying life on a working Tudor Farm, carrying out practical tasks such as cooking, cleaning, Tudor crafts or animal related tasks whilst wearing Tudor period clothing on a daily basis.

You will welcome and engage with visitors of all ages, helping us to deliver exceptional customer service, answering visitors’ questions and involving them as appropriate in the Tudor tasks. You should therefore possess excellent communication skills, be happy to work as part of a team or independently and be able and willing to undertake lifting and manual tasks.

To be successful in this role an interest in or knowledge of Shakespeare’s work and the Tudor period is required. One position is working an average of 26.25 hours per week (52.5 hours per fortnight), and the second position is working an average of 22.5 hours per week (45 hours per fortnight).

Mary Arden’s Farm is open seven days a week until Sunday 3rd November 2019 and you will be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays so you should be flexible and available.

Reader Services Assistants – Casual contract

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is looking for casual Reader Services Assistants to work with the Reader Services Team until Friday 20th December 2019.

We are looking for a casual Reader Services Assistant who can provide friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable advice and instruction to readers in our Reading Room. You will assist the Reader Services team in delivering excellent customer service by email, post and in person, including the delivery of our photocopying service. There may also be the opportunity to assist with research, display creation and group visits.

You will have experience of working in a customer-facing environment, which will allow you to communicate confidently with a wide range of users. You will be educated to at least A Level standard, have good IT skills and be able to work accurately and with attention to detail. Reception, library and archive or general office experience would be an advantage.

An interest in the theatre, Shakespeare and/or history is desirable, but a willingness to learn about the subject areas covered by the collections and the systems we use is essential, as training will be provided. This is a casual role and hours will depend on the needs of the Reading Room, to cover events, university residential courses and holidays.

Retail and Reception Assistants – Mary Arden’s Farm - Part-time, fixed term contract

The Trust is looking for three part-time Retail and Reception Assistants to work at Mary Arden’s Farm this summer season. One position is working an average of either 24.5 hours per week (49 hours per fortnight), and other two positions are working an average of 10.5 hours per week (21 hours per fortnight).

You will support the Retail and Reception Manager, ensuring that visitors receive a warm welcome and that agreed sales targets are met or exceeded. You will also be involved with the team of volunteers at Mary Arden’s and assist in keeping customer satisfaction at its current level.

To be successful in these roles you should possess strong communication skills, have experience of using Ticket Desks and/or Retail Tills. Experience of receiving, recording and merchandising stock would be an advantage.

Retail and Reception Team Leader – Mary Arden’s Farm - Part-time, fixed term contract

The Trust is currently looking for a Retail and Reception Team Leader to work at Mary Arden’s Farm this summer season.

Reporting to the Retail and Reception Manager and working closely with the Retail and Reception Assistants, you will deliver a world class welcome for all visitors and contribute towards achieving financial targets.

To be successful in this role you will have experience of working in retail or sales for a customer-facing operation. You will have experience of supervising and motivating a small team. You will be used to operating a computerised retail or EPOS ticketing system, handling cash and reconciling daily paperwork. You should have excellent customer service skills, be able to up sell products and ticket options, and deal with customer complains smoothly and appropriately.

Senior Catering Assistant – Mary Arden’s Farm - Part-time, fixed term contract

The Trust is currently looking for an experienced Senior Catering Assistant to join the Cafe team at Mary Arden’s Farm this summer season.

Working an average of 25 hours per week, you will be responsible for the preparation and service of food and drink to the required standards for all our internal and external customers. You will contribute to the financial sustainability of the Trust by ensuring that an efficient and professional service and ensure the effective operation of the Café.

To be successful within this role, you will have proven customer service experience within the hospitality industry, an ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team and be reliable and committed. You will have a level 2 in food hygiene and be able to consistently deliver high standards with attention to detail.

Visitor Reception Assistants – Shakespeare’s Birthplace - Part-time, fixed term contract

The Trust is looking for two Visitor Reception Assistants to join the team at Shakespeare’s Birthplace, working 11 hours per week.

As Visitor Reception Assistant you will be responsible for delivering excellent standards of visitor experience through a warm welcome and sharing of information to enhance visitors’ understanding of the offer. You will also contribute to the financial sustainability of the Trust by ensuring that opportunities are taken to maximise sales through an efficient and professional admission process leading to increased average admissions and secondary spends.

To be successful in this role you will have experience of working in a high profile, customer-facing operation, preferably a busy visitor attraction with a diverse audience. You will be used to delivering against a range of KPIs including financial and visitor satisfaction targets. A sound understanding of customer service principles, experience of using EPOS ticketing systems, and cash handling are also essential.

You will be required to work alternate weekends and Bank Holidays.
